Introduction

I introduce the history of Japanese art after the war in six groups of five.

First of all, there are many wonderful artists in Japan.

This time it may be full of dogmatic and prejudice by individual artists. I would like to give people inside and outside Japan a systematic explanation of Japanese contemporary art history in an easy-to-understand manner, so that I can convey the background of the cultural society that Japanese artist have followed since after the war.

Overall Summary

In particular, the artist introductions in the parts 5 and 6  that I personally became friends with. Some have forcibly selected five members in personal. There may be unnatural points, such as a person who is different from the original member joining the group members.

The point to summarize was to select artists who continued to create works with solid and originality.

This is because the contemporary art scene in Japan is thriving on conceptual discourses, relational arts,  social justice and anti-socialism, and there is not much respect for art that confronts works in the atelier.

Izumi Kato,

Born in Shimane Prefecture, he returned to Japan after studying abroad in Germany in the late 90’s and He was picked up at a young group exhibition at the Venice Biennale. Since then, he has been rapidly gaining recognition and working with the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and the Art Tower Mito,as well as solidifying his position as an artist in Japan. In the early 2000s, his work was announced by Arataniurano gallery, who became independent from SCAI TheBathHouse , and in the 2010s, he expanded his work worldwide with Ms.Urano.

Hideaki Kawashima,

With an atelier in downtown Tokyo, he pursues new possibilities for painting with delicate brushstrokes and overwhelming composition. With experience training on Buddhism temple in Shiga , he encloses Buddhism and the spiritual world in a two-dimensional world. Using highly transparent techniques that abstract characters and make them transparently, he continue to draw facial expressions that no one can imitate.

Takashi Murakami,

His work, which was sold for 300 million yen at an auction in New York in the late 1900s, made his reputation international. His global strategy often focuses on the traditional art history of the West, while at the same time motifing traditional Japanese Buddhist paintings. However, it is not enough to simply incorporate geek culture such as animation and manga into the work. A large number of works are produced by a manufacture production style by a large number of staff.

Yoshitomo Nara,

Born in Morioka City, Aomori Prefecture, he graduated from Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts and went to Germany to study at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts, which produces world-class artists such as Gerhard Richter and Joseph Beuys. After that, the exhibition will be held mainly in Cologne, and will be introduced in Japan by the Tomio Koyama Gallery along with international acclaim. The overwhelming character power of a girl with a knife makes the world position solid.

Hiroshi Sugito

Born in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, he graduated from Aichi Prefectural University of art and moved to the United States, where he signed a contract with a major gallery in Germany and Switzerland in one of the major movements of emotional painting, and it was pop but impressive and abstract. The unique spatial expression that slowly captures the typical form spreads quickly to the world. He  has been highly evaluated. It is strange that a world reminiscent of a theater or a stage is depicted in a single painting, and it is a painting expression only possible for him.

Part 3 Summary

Takashi Murakami will be evaluated in New York, and Yoshitomo Nara will be evaluated in Germany and other European countries. At the same time Japanese isolated boy in house that called OTAKU, like post-war Japanese subcultures and anime, have created an environment in which they can expand their world as artists. In the end, it became a world-class art expression, synchronized with the freedom of expression of the individual that was won by the modernism of modern painting of 18th century.
