For more than twenty-five years, Hideki Iinuma has carved female figures from a single block of wood.
Their rough surfaces—left with visible tool marks—hold the real, unfiltered presence of contemporary women living in today’s society.
The women he carves do not perform smiles or conform to expectations.
They stand as they are: independent, stylish, and emotionally honest.
Small shifts of posture and quiet gestures reveal their inner strength and individuality.
Iinuma has created over a thousand works to date, including a landmark solo exhibition of more than 300 pieces at the Matsumoto City Museum of Art in 2016.
Since then, he has continued to present his work internationally through exhibitions and art fairs across Europe and Asia.
In recent years, collaborations have become an important part of his practice.
At the Vigilius Mountain Resort in Italy, he presents not only exhibitions but also workshops that connect sculpture with the surrounding architecture and nature.
In Japan, he collaborates with PERVERZE, a contemporary Japanese fashion brand, creating installations that merge fashion, space, and sculpture.
He also appeared on stage with Akakilike during Kyoto Experiment, extending his artistic expression into performance.
Even as his activities diversify, the core of his practice remains unchanged: the presence of women living in the “now.”
Standing before his sculptures, viewers encounter figures who simply exist as themselves—unadorned, sincere, and quietly powerful.

飯沼英樹は25年以上にわたり、一木造りで女性像を彫り続けてきた。
木肌や彫り跡をそのまま残したラフな外形には、現代社会を生きる女性たちのリアルな存在感が静かに宿る。
彼が彫る女性たちは、誰かの期待に合わせて笑う必要がない。
自分の足で立ち、自分の美意識でおしゃれを楽しむ、自立した現代の女性像である。
わずかな姿勢の揺らぎや視線の変化から、内にある強さや誠実さが立ち上がる。
これまで1000点以上を制作し、2016年には松本市美術館で300点超の大規模個展を開催。
その後はヨーロッパやアジアのギャラリーやアートフェアを舞台に、国際的な発表を続けている。
近年はコラボレーションも活発で、イタリアのヴィギリウス・マウンテンリゾートでは個展に加え、建築と自然を生かしたワークショップも行なっている。
日本ではファッションブランド PERVERZE と協働し、ファッションと空間と彫刻を交差させたインスタレーションを展開。
さらに京都エクスペリメンツでは Akakilike の演者として舞台に立ち、表現の領域をパフォーマンスへと広げた。
活動の形が広がっても、制作の核は一貫して「今を生きる女性の存在」である。
作品の前に立つと、彼女たちは静かに、ありのままの姿で佇む。
その誠実さとしなやかな強さに、見る者は自然と向き合うことになる。
